summer days

We spent a day at Deanna Rose Farmstead, along with my friend Ricci and her 3 kids, Shiloah, Moriah, and Noah.

With the help of a cheesy little book, I made my very first balloon animal…a blue dog for Zia! She was so thrilled.

I made 2 new nighties for Zia. Β She looks perfect in them, like a little white butterfly fluttering around. Of course, I was too lazy to get her to put one on for a daytime photo. Sorry.

Sometimes I feel like summer is made of a choppy string of stills. I guess that’s probably because I’m always taking pictures. But you have to kind of stop it mid-action; you have to capture it somehow, like a firefly in a jar. If you don’t, it’s just a brief blink on a perfect summer night…a bright blur that’s before your face for a moment, then gone…forever.

I know it’s not just summer I mean. It’s life: the beauty of it, the children in it, everything young and green that will change to red and gold and finally fall back to the earth. So I’ll capture it- in my mind’s eye, with my camera, in my sketchbook. I’ll taste it, savor it, and set it free to fly away again. And then I’ll remember it.

The nighties are adorable! You can tell even from hanging on the line that they’ll look perfect on her. I love white.
