weekend travels
Over the weekend we headed south to Canon City. The wild lands out there are so beautiful, and there’s always lots of wildlife. Last time we were there we saw the bear…
…this time lots of deer
and a few turkey vultures
who were enjoying a fresh roadside kill.
We hiked in the woods, where we almost came face to face with an elk.
These are some old schoolhouses that are out in the middle of nowhere. They must be the ones our grandparents talked about…I guess those stories about walking miles to school every day were really true!
It’s idyllic out there in some places; David said it reminded him of hiking the Swiss Alps.
I thought so too…right down to the tinkling cowbells.
Well, these cows didn’t really have bells, but they should have. The Swiss ones did. (Don’t mind the bug-laden windshield).
We spent the night in Colorado Springs. The hotel and pool were the very best part for someone cute. She looked forward to it all day long, and as you can see, it was well worth the wait!
I love the outdoors so much, but I also have a little princess who has been asking about when she will next visit a hotel. It’s so funny to me. My husband thinks sleeping outdoors is a privilege and my daughter finds it shocking that you would do it by choice! haha!
DID YOU GO IN THE SCHOOL HOUSE
Hey Caleb! No, I didn’t go in but I peeked in the window. There were some old chalkboards and a sink in there…pretty cool!
