snowshoeing at mud lake
David took Monday off work, and we went drove down the road a couple of miles to Mud Lake. There was a nice packed trail around the lake, and we set off on snowshoes.
Mud Lake is one of those places that’s beautiful in every season. It’s nicely kept, and the trails are well-marked. There are benches and picnic tables sprinkled around, but you hardly notice them. It’s really the natural ruggedness and beauty that stands out more than the stamp of humankind.
Zia did pretty good, but collapsed a few times and said she just couldn’t go on. It took a bit of bribery (chocolate chip cookies, anyone?) before we finally made it around the lake.
The lake, by the way, was frozen and covered with snow. It had snowshoe and ski tracks crossing it, but we were too chicken…so we stayed on the trail.
Afterwards we went to Buffalo Bill’s. There’s something special about having hot chocolate and chai in a circus train car, wouldn’t you agree?
Especially when the waitress surprises you with sprinkles on your whipped cream. That–along with half a dozen mini doughnuts– is enough to make you forget all about chocolate chip cookies. For a while, at least.
I think Monday should be a day off for everyone, everywhere, always. 🙂
A nice spot – glad you didn’t go on the lake. Mimi
Sounds awesome! They said we might have a few flurries around midnight. ‘Twill be nothing in comparison.
She looks beyond adorable in her little snow shoes. What fun! We’ve had a few skiers and snow shoe walkers on the snow covered horse trail behind our house these days 🙂
