nature boy
Caleb spent last week with his classmates at a camp called High Trails. They hiked 6-8 miles a day, learned a ton about the forest, saw moose, roasted marshmallows, and had an all-around blast.
I think he would have liked to stay there indefinitely, but a certain little girl was very glad he came home.
Since then, we’ve been learning about aspens from the new aspen expert. For example, they are all essentially one tree, connected by their root system. And if you rub the white powder from the bark on yourself, you get a sunscreen with a SPF of about 5.
Speaking of aspens, ours have put out tiny new green leaves!
They bring the feel of spring to our mountain. And although the locals say we’ll be getting snow right through June, I’m happy for every day of springtime that I can see green and feel warmth.
I would have loved a camp like that! Still would!!
I had no idea Aspens were essentially one tree nor that they provided sunscreen. So cool! I love that Zia and Caleb are such good pals! š
Please, oh please, let there not be a flake of snow in June! š
