mountain fairyland
“A blanket of fresh white snow!” Zia said when she woke up yesterday morning. The “blanket” is about 15″ thick, and we’ve been playing in it now for two days.
Would you have been able to resist this beckoning you out the door?
I tried out my snowshoes for the very first time. I love to cross-country ski, but I’ve always thought snowshoes would be awkward and clunky.
I was wrong–I love my snowshoes. They weren’t awkward at all, but small, light, and really fun–they even came with poles. I think I had those big wooden tennis racquet-looking things in mind. Welcome to the 21st century.
The snow here is so incredible. I think it’s what snow was created to be–bright white, thick and fluffy–and it tastes really fresh and clean.
Zia trekked with me along the snow covered road for a while. As you can see, we bundled up yesterday (here I am in David’s Marlboro snowpants) but today the sun came out and I shoveled the driveway in a T-shirt.
Since the snow on the road melted today, I went snowshoeing through the woods. It felt like I was in a fairy tale–Little Red Riding Hood, or maybe Peter and the Wolf. Except no wolves–at least, not that I noticed.
Sometimes I still can’t believe I really live here in the Colorado mountains. It seems each new season brings a new revelation of the beauty that dwells here.
I remember living in Kansas City during that last year and yearning for something beautiful to surround me when I went outside. Unfortunately, that rarely happened.
But the 7 years I spent there made me appreciate this so much more!
Beauty literally presses against my windowpanes now.
That is gorgeous snow. I am not usually a fan of snow, but now I’m thinking it’s because I’ve only been introduced to Kansas City snow. Colorado snow looks like so much fun!
