Well, it’s winter here again.  I took Caleb to meet the ski bus this morning, and cars were slipping all over the icy, snow-covered roads.  The sun is shining, but the temperature seems stuck at 18 degrees and the goats scarcely want to poke their heads out of the barn.

David is five days into his Masters Golf work trip in Augusta, but he left us well prepared for the spring storms we know and love. The wood stove is pumping out heat as I write, the basement is full of wood, and the 4-wheeler is just waiting for me to jump on and plow the driveway.

It may be cold out, but as usual, we’re warm inside.  Hope your April is starting out a little more spring-like!

Linking up with SouleMama…a moment from our week.

On one of our many visits to Deanna Rose Farm in Kansas City, Zia spent most of her time feeding this little black goat.  Funny how much it looks like her own goat now, five years later!

today

Hi!  It’s 50 degrees outside, which is a lovely hot day in the mountains, especially since this is normally our heaviest snow season.  (This kid still has his coat on in the picture, but I quickly ripped that thing off.)  Get out the swimsuits, slather on the coconut oil, make some popsicles, and pleeeeeeease don’t snow again for a very long time.

We haven’t painted our nails in a while, but today we did.  The last time was almost six months ago, and the last bit of polish just wore off my toes from then, lol.  Today the kids wanted alternating colors.

“Hmm,” he says, picking a letter L magnet off the fridge. “X, for Boy.”

Just before he wet on the floor.

Besides painting nails and wiping up the floor, most of our day was spent outside

…with our silly goats.

They are so scared to come down the driveway with us.  That’s them up there, maaa-ing frantically for us to come back up to safety.

Especially Pippa, who, for all her big horns, is really Big Mama Scaredy-Cat.

I just noticed from my photo files that we also painted our nails three years ago today.  Zia even asked for alternating colors way back then.

She also had a tea party on that day.  This party would never survive now that we have a certain little boy in the house. The tea would be slurped and the dishes smashed with a big stick, I’m sure.

He was safely tucked in my belly that day, away from tea parties and big sticks, and you can see I was one happy mama.  Those were such good days, but I wouldn’t trade them for our stick-smashing, potty-on-the-floor, painted boy-nails, and letter-reading days of right now.

Hope your day is as sunny as ours!

I have to confess, I might have gotten just a wee bit bored with wood…and started hammering away at some copper.  (But I haven’t left wood for good–just taking a little breather.)  Here are a few things that materialized under my hammer:

I really dig the primal feeling I get from squatting on a rock (A.K.A. cement basement floor) and hammering my heart out.  I also hand-shaped the ear wires for these.  I have always loved copper, but I think I love banging it even more.   Maybe I’m not a blacksmith’s daughter for nothing. 🙂  Hope you like these–I’d love to hear what you think.

And these pieces are now in my shop–at Poco Leon Studio.
