new mexico road trip
We took a road trip to New Mexico on Wednesday. David had a court hearing near Albuquerque toward obtaining physical custody of Caleb. It was a hard and stressful day, and there are still unresolved issues, but he had a great win, and we are thankful for that.
It is Caleb choice to live with us, and although his mom’s wishes are a high priority to us, it is also important for him to have a say in his living situation. He is making new friends at school for the first time in his life, not to mention forming a bond with his dad, sister, and brother. And me, of course–last but not least.
While we were in NM, the Connecticut shootings took place. I feel so sad for the parents of the Sandy Hook schoolchildren. I can not imagine their grief over their children, and I know there are really no words that would come close to describe what they are going through.
I’m so glad–thrilled, really–that I get to keep my kids another day. Our nation seems to be turning into an increasingly unsafe place to live. It was closer to home with the Colorado theater shootings a few months ago, but this last one was even more heart rending, since there were so many child victims. Our hearts and prayers go out to those parents.
After the court hearing on Thursday, we went to Santa Fe to spend some time with David’s parents. It’s always nice to see them–they are so bright and cheery and happy–but this visit was even more special because they got to meet their littlest grandchild.
Zia had a blast. She got to do everything she doesn’t do at home, including watching cartoons all day and having cookies for breakfast. She also saw her cousin Makayla, who is now ten years old, going on sixteen.
Caleb spent the visit immersed in Grandma’s iPad, which I guess is why I don’t have any pictures of him.
Cash made his first long trip with minimal crying. He loved his grandparents and smiled from ear to ear at them.
We’ll miss you, Grandma and Pom Pom!
Thankful the Lord and the judge found favor with David and Caleb is “home”.
I’m glad you get to hold all yours close with you.
