cat dress
The girl has a new dress. Complete with cat buttons, which she helped pick out at the fabric store. And of course, pockets- which have already held paper and pens, goat food, and apple money for the snack at the library. Created in the very best of ways: no patterns, no measurements, no markings. Just gather all the scraps in the basket, pick out a few of the sweetest, hold up to the kid to get the approximate width and height, and snip snip, clip and stitch…here a tuck, there a ruffle, here a gather, there a whipstitch. Judging from the look on her face and the amount of time spent wearing it already, I can say the dress will definitely work…some clothes do and some just don’t, you know? It’s really up to the wearer to decide. This one works, and I’m glad. I love the way she looks in black and white, and I love the length on her.
Mostly I love how she prances barefootedly around in it, singing softly: “I’m a girl, I’m a girl!”
