the great adventure
I woke up this morning to find this card at my place on the table. I have to say, it’s the perfect picture of us.
I married him eight years ago today, and I knew it would be an adventure…I just didn’t know what an adventure it would be!
Our wedding was planned in four days. I made my dress (with my awesome aunt’s help), my papa married us at home in upstate New York, and we were off. (We went to NY to celebrate Thanksgiving with my family and came back married.) We settled into David’s little house in Kansas City, and that was just the beginning.
A year later, we moved to South Carolina for nine months. We lived in a tiny apartment and worked to help start a house of prayer alongside a team of musicians, artists and singers.
We went to Arizona and jumped out of an airplane above the desert. It was a special surprise for me from David. Even then, he knew me pretty well.
We traveled to Europe and rode a motorcycle across Switzerland in the rain, hiked the Alps, and took a train to Italy, staying in youth hostels and hanging out with the locals.
We went to Puerto Rico and boarded a ship for the Virgin Islands, where we explored St. Thomas, St. Maarten’s, Antigua, Barbados and several others. I was five months pregnant and roasting in the sun.
At six months pregnant, we drove out west with Caleb. We hiked the Grand Canyon, walked through the petrified forest, and Caleb and I went running through the Painted Desert (oops–that turned out to be illegal!)
Zia was born at home that summer. David delivered her.
We left Kansas City and moved to Colorado, where we landed in a little condo. Caleb came to visit–and decided he’d like to stay. We needed a bigger house, so we moved to the mountains–to our sweet home now.
Four months ago, Cash was born at home in water.
And here we are, eight years after that snowy white December 1st in New York. Somehow I know it’s still just the beginning.
Happy anniversary, Spaniard. I can’t wait to see what adventures lie ahead!
Happy 8 years! To the next 8 and beyond….. it wasn’t just any motorcycle either, it was a Ducati! I love you HUGE!
