cool cucumbers meet hatch heat
When the sun shines as much as it has this week in Kansas City, I start longing for some good summer food. So I picked up these juicy cucumbers at the River Market, sliced them up, and threw together a tangy dressing to douse them in. Just a few simple ingredients did the trick:
raw apple cider vinegar
extra virgin olive oil
spicy brown mustard
agave nectar
sea salt
freshly ground black pepper.
Me and my girl, we’re cucumber types. We love the cold, juicy crunch, and we downed these!
The Conquistador, on the other hand, likes to heat things up a little…
so he fired up his trusty grill.
Morel mushrooms: a friend bought me 4 of them. At $49.99/lb, they are some tasty little treats…especially on the grill.
Hatch green chiles…grown, of course, in Hatch, N.M. David got these at the market, and grilled them to perfection- as only a Spaniard can.
And the grilled flesh: steak for David, chicken for Zia, salmon burgers for me. We topped them with the chiles, mushrooms, and a dollop of fresh guacamole…
and wrapped them in lettuce right from the garden. Delicioso!
Here’s the man behind the flame. He’s an AWESOME farmer, too…as you can clearly see by the stalk of wheat that rests so comfortably between his teeth. By the way, how ’bout that haircut? I think it looks amazing on him. Oh, and just between you and me, we’ve been married 5 1/2 years today!
A kiss for the cook. Have I mentioned he’s also an awesome Dadda?
“The man behind the flame…” hilarious. seriously, good stuff. you are a funny writer.
MMMM that cookout was DELISH! The green chile, the steak, the guac, the lettuce… and my two favorite girlies!!
Schmoochies HUGE
