artist’s residency and a first date
Well, I guess yesterday’s picture was a little depressing, hehe. But it was taken earlier in the week, and since then we have had some nice warm, sunny days.
That last snow was actually beautiful, the way it blanketed the trees–and our whole world. I find myself more patient and even happy with the big spring snows now. It’s really nice to see our usually-so-dry Colorado earth drenched with melting snow.
Besides, Cash and I couldn’t spend much time outside–we were busy in our basement studio all week.
I applied several weeks ago for a local artist’s residency, and have been spending all my free time preparing for it. I proposed a summer session teaching jewelry making, and while I’ve been conjuring up projects in the studio, Cash has been at my side, sorting beads, rocks, leather snaps, and smooth glass from the river. He even strung some buttons on a cord, and it has been awesome to see his patience and fine motor skills grow as he sorts all his dishes of tiny, pretty things.
Yesterday morning was my interview, and in the afternoon I was offered the residency. Yippee!!! I am completely thrilled at the prospect of being an artist in residence. Next week I’ll refine my eleven 2-hour classes and begin working with the director to finalize the jewelry class schedule and sign-up sheet.
Our day ended with David and I going on our first date since having kids. Caleb babysat for us, and although I was a little nervous about our leaving Cash for the first time ever, he was fine. Caleb did great and even changed a messy diaper while we were gone–which merits a badge of some kind, I’m sure.
For our date, David and I got dressed and headed to an artist’s reception to check out some amazing artwork and hang with the artsy folk. We had so much fun, laughed like crazy, and were pegged as a very “Colorado chic” couple, haha. There might have been a tad of wine behind that compliment, but we received it graciously just the same. 🙂
Congratulations on the residency! That’s extremely exciting and it’s well deserved.
Thanks, Robin!
