nighttime barn raising
This actually wasn’t a barn raising–more like a barn fixing-up. Of course, barn raising sounds way cooler. All we needed was an Amish neighbor to complete that homey thought, but Amish neighbors are few and far between in our neck of the woods. David and Caleb had to do the job on their own in the cold, dark, night.
We have a nice big shed that we’ve been using for storage, and are now turning into a goat barn. We cleared it out, donated some things, and put the rest in the shed’s loft. David and Caleb finished off the inside walls of the shed after spending the day out getting supplies (for it and a paddock).
Zia flitted back and forth between the house and barn while Cash and I went in to make doughnuts. We have been making this recipe almost every day in our mini doughnut iron. It involves coconut oil, whole wheat flour, and maple syrup, and we use almond milk in it. I pretend it’s healthy, though I know it’s not really that healthy.
Especially since we drizzle the doughnuts with sugary homemade icing and top them with a generous spattering of colored sprinkles–Cash’s favorite part. Healthy or not, we have a blast making these–and eating them.
The job went quickly (especially for those of us who weren’t working) and now the shed is warm and tight. It really looks awesome.
Coming next–the goat paddock! Only four days till we bring the goats home! Yay yay yay!

Goats? Your getting goats?! You are living my dream. Are chickens in the near future as well? How exciting!
Yes, chickens. They are in our (hopefully near) future!
Looks like a lot of work getting done fast! Nice!
