wanted: one big brother
This week I’ve been keeping a very bored little girl busy during her brother’s spring break to NM.
When she got tired of painting and drawing and reading books and watching nature movies, she asked to try finger knitting, then crocheting with a hook, and finally needlepoint on plastic canvas.
After that she chopped up her yarn and I found her name spelled out on the floor.
Next, she pulled out the art books, coloring books, and craft books. It didn’t take long for her to decide she simply had to make a dried fruit garland for the birds (they have little houses, you see, but no food).
We made it and hung it on a tree, but that wasn’t enough. She dragged me off to the woods to find the perfect pine cone, filled it with peanut butter, and stuck on all kinds of nuts and seeds.
That led to us climbing the rocks on the hill in front of our house. She skipped around like a little mountain goat, and I came puffing along behind.
A trip to Joann Fabrics yesterday landed her a sparkly pink headband, a new grown-up sippy cup, and even better, a show pony to paint and dress up.
Fingernails and toenails were painted too
and tea parties were hosted.
We’re about ready for a big brother to play with again!
hi honeeee…… the little one is sooooo beautiful – love her hair š luv u guys and miss u, too/mom
I LOVE the dried fruit garland idea!!! SO PRETTY! I would make it for the kids to wear, like those sugar candy necklaces…. SO much prettier than hard sugar and so much better for a snack! =)
Colleen,
We did toy with the idea of making necklaces! Zia was weirded out by the stickiness, though, and wouldn’t touch the fruit after stringing the first one.
haha! Zia is one busy, creative, sweet little girl. I can tell she’s missing her brother!
