bioblitz 2012
National Geographic’s annual Biodiversity Festival was held at Estes Park this year. Saturday morning we all hopped in the car and skedaddled on over.
The event was geared toward folks of all ages (3-103, as the website said). There were a ton of science exhibits, with National Geographic folks everywhere to explain the exhibits and answer questions.
There were hands-on art activities, games, live music, face painting, animal balloons, and food. We tried a little of everything. Cash was the only one who opted out–he stayed sleeping peacefully in David’s arms until we ate. Then he smelled the food and decided to have his lunch, too.
Zia and I headed for the petting zoo while the guys checked out the more scientific stuff. We petted a baby camel, a donkey, a calf, a pony, goats, llamas, a giant rabbit, and a wallaby.
In the end, we donned some duds (all except Cash, who was somehow overlooked) and left with our very own National Geographic magazine cover. Our first family portrait since we’ve become five!
What a great day! I’m glad to see everyone is doing well. Your new family portrait is wonderful!
