painted toes and adventures in the city
I rarely paint my nails. In fact, I could count on one finger the times I’ve painted them this year. But funny things happen when I walk into the makeup isle at Whole Foods with $18 in store credit. I get a weird gleam in my eye and start trying things on. Yesterday it was orange body glitter, green eye pencils, and other interesting things. Before I knew it, the body glitter was in my basket, and so was a bottle of sparkly Guava Glaze nail polish (and I still had $7 left!)
This is the gleam that enters my eye.
Gabriel is a pretty awesome company, and this bottle of nail polish reads: No Formaldehyde, Toluene, DBP Free. (Sure, David says.) It definitely has something in it, because it smells like more than distilled water and mashed guava.
As for the orange glitter, who could resist that? They had every color in the rainbow, but the orange was meant for me. Especially perfect in fall, when it could pass as (glittery) falling leaf dust. Besides, I like to imagine my freckles are springing to life like never before.
Taking pics of my reflection in a dirty window.
The Boy was with me, of course, when I bought these frivolities, and he always makes the makeup isle double the fun. Everything I try, he insists on trying too, but in blue, his hayy-hit (favorite) color. He thought the blue glitter would look good on his lips, so he smeared it there, as well as the surrounding two-inch radius of nose, cheeks, and chin (because it’s hard to get it right on the mark, you know).
When we got home and I painted my toenails, he asked if he could too, with his little face all lit up like a full moon. “Nice!” He said, beaming as he pointed to the bottle. We went upstairs and I found the other bottle of nail polish I own, which happens to be–you guessed it–blue. He was thrilled. We painted those piggies while Dadda was out smoking a cigar–little guessing the atrocity going on right above his head.
So that was yesterday’s adventure, or part of it. We also went to Michael’s Crafts, where Cash loaded the cart with a double of every tube of oil paint and string of beads I got, along with several different types of candy and gum from the register. Thankfully, we had a patient cashier who didn’t seem to mind the pile of unwanted stuff we left her. And I won’t even go into our time at the playground, where Cash squeezed applesauce onto the spongy fake turf (which was chipped and peeling and dirty) and then proceeded to lick it up, quick as a wink.
Fun times–made even better with a little sparkly toenail polish and body glitter. 😉
