a walk to the park
On our walk this morning, Cash didn’t want to go our usual way–he had the park in mind. I took a roundabout way that brought us to the park after about an hour.
We spotted our house from this road-can you see it?
Home sweet home!
Along the way, we saw a couple of golden eagles soaring overhead. Someday I’ll get a better picture of one–they are so magnificent.
The Indian paintbrush are still in full bloom,
and so are the thistles. Ours are about 4 feet high.
We finally got to the park. For this boy, it was so worth the wait.
He loves to torture his mother.
And she also enjoys torturing him.
We never made it to the swings. It’s more fun to roll around in the grass tickling each other and feeling the bugs crawl in your hair.
In the end, gummy fruits are always a good peace offering. (By the way, we really didn’t bring wine to the playground. That dilapidated bag is what we use to carry water bottles and snacks.)
My new minimalist shoes. I took a chance and ordered them on Amazon, and they are so great. The perfect size and shape, and even after walking over an hour in them (this is the first time I wore them!), my feet didn’t hurt at all. I love that the toe box is wider than the rest of the shoe. Lots of wiggle room.
Since wearing minimalist/barefoot shoes, my feet have grown so much stronger and more flexible. The whole sole flexes with your foot, and (ideally) the heel is even with or lower than the toe. That rocked-back position is great for your back and hips–it aligns you into a very natural posture. Having a raised heel (even slightly) pushes your spine forward and puts some strain on your back. Need I say I don’t touch high heels with a ten-foot pole? (But I do have a weakness for cowboy boots–my only flaw, of course.) 🙂
This is my other pair of barefoot shoes, and I’ll be so glad to retire them–as in to the trash. I estimate I’ve walked at least 700 dirt road miles since I bought these last year, and I wore them as often as the weather permitted. I was caught out in a hail/thunderstorm last month, and it filled them with so much dirt and gravel I finally decided to get a new pair. Sometimes you just need a little boot (er, barefoot shoe) in the behind to get moving.
We had such a great time playing at the park that it was hard to finally leave. But Boy had soaked his diaper and was bare bottomed, so I wanted to get home. We don’t live among hippies anymore–this is a cowboy town–and I wouldn’t put it past the sheriff to drive by and write Cash up for misconduct.
We got home before the thunder and rain started and made lunch. It’s been just another salad day for me and my boy. 🙂
Mixed greens, black olives, cherry tomatoes, baby portabellas, pan-grilled hemp tofu, nutritional yeast, apple cider vinegar, plain yogurt, and red grapes.
Just catchin’ up to all the entries you’ve put in since David left….looks like you’re doing ok – and I like the pic of you by the fence.
SEEMS LIKE JUST YESTERDAY I WAS DOING ALL THE THINGS YOU ARE DOING WITH CASH–THE ROLLING IN THE GRASS, THE SWINGS, AND THE WALKS. SO MANY MEMORIES. HAVE FUN. EVERYDAY CAN BE A NEW ADVENTURE.
