first dusting
That tiny bit of snow on the post is our very first.
It rained most of the day, temperatures were in the 30’s, and this evening we looked out the windows to see we were surrounded by flurries of snow.
Snow in September? You just take what the mountains give you, I guess. The higher peaks of the Great Divide have been white for a while already, so we knew it was coming.
And it just made dinner that much cozier.
Last night when Caleb finished scarfing down 1/4 of the lemon meringue pie, he leaned back, licked his lips, and said, “Key lime next time”.
I made him one today while he was at school. We had it for dessert, and he’s planning on taking a piece to school Monday to eat bite by bite in front of his friends. He doesn’t seem to mind that it will be three days old by then.
Since we’re on the subject of food, I’ve been making one version or another of this salad for the past few days. Red grapes, goat cheese, walnuts, black olives, mushrooms, and celery on green leaf lettuce, tossed with a fresh-herb vinaigrette. It’s delicious, but of course I am the only one who eats it around here. Goat cheese is scary stuff, you know.
The previous owners of our house planted a little herb garden in two raised troughs off the kitchen, and I am loving it. There is Italian parsley, thyme, oregano, chives, and green onions. I pick some for my soups and/or salads every day. Such a luxury.
I can hardly wait to put in a real garden next spring. We’ll see what kind of garden will grow at nearly 10,000 ft. high. 🙂
The Boy eats nearly everything we eat (and he doesn’t seem to mind being served on hand-me-down pink plates). I usually give him tidbits from my salads, along with bits of whatever meat we have for dinner.
I’ve been holding off on giving him wheat, but the other day I let him have a couple of organic ginger snap cookies. He was very excited about them, and smiled from ear to ear. He also loves to share my morning smoothies, even though they give him a handlebar mustache and a uni-brow.
got smoothie?
hi honeeee…………WHAT A BEATIFUL BEAUTIFUL LIL BOY~~~and the dinner looks pretty YUMMY, too 🙂 luv u/mom (stay cozy in the new house 🙂 )
A dusting of snow?! Although those first snowfalls are lovely, I’m not quite ready to loosen my grip on fall. I’m still in denial that summer is over.
Love the food pics – you serve some delicious looking meals!
What a little cutie you have there too! So sweet!
Wishing you a lovely and blessed weekend.
xoxo
So awesome to have snow already!!! I LOVE snow. What is your recipe for pizza, and what toppings do you use? Those are some huge pepperoni!
Hey Lyssa,
I use this pizza recipe:
https://pocoleon.com/recipes/high-altitude-pizza/
and we usually just top with mozzarella and those big pepperoni slices (Applegate Naturals nitrate-free). On this one, I also added some onions, black olives, and mushrooms for David.
Ok, after seeing this I WILL have pizza tonight….Little Boy is SO DARN CUTE!
