gone to new york
We’ve been in upstate NY since Saturday night. It seems like forever since I’ve been here, and everything seems a little different, while so familiar. New York is incredibly greener than Colorado, and the air is charged with moisture. Everything feels lower (it is) and just a little swamp-like compared to the arid mountains of Colorado. There is also a ton of oxygen, which makes me slightly giddy.
Sunday my family got together at my sister Rahab’s house. Here is Mimi with Zia and Maddie (Rahab’s girl). Maddie turns 2 on Wednesday, so we had a birthday party for her. We had a baby shower at the same time for my brother Franz and his fiancee Brianna. They are having a boy named Sawyer.
Mimi made this blanket for him.
I made this bib. It was super simple–the lion is an applique, the edging is bias tape, and I hand-stitched his name.
Cash met his cousins for the very first time. That’s Maddie on the left and Gianna (my sister Sarah’s baby) on the right. Who’s the cutest cousin?
Hmm, they’re all cute. (If you guessed this one, you’re right. Shh.)
I made this little apron for Maddie’s birthday
and Zia and I knotted fleece blankies for Sawyer, Gianna, and Maddie.
We bought this little wristlet in Nederland for Mimi. Of course, she’s already the bravest lady I know. She had 11 kids at home and home schooled all of them. That’s brave, right?
Here’s Papa with Grandma. He’s not too shabby for 65, right? Grandma will be 90 this year.
Me and Grandma. I’m not actually growing horns.
Papa and Cash.
My sister Ramah with Cash.
My brother Franz, who somehow went from boy to man in the two years since I’ve seen him.
Brianna, the star of the party.
Maddie, the other star.
That’s my brother Kit back there on the right. He also grew up while I was gone.
David and Gianna.
Four of my other brothers are coming up from South Carolina on Thursday. I’m expecting to see one big brother and three little brothers, but I have a feeling I’ll see four men instead.
We’re staying with Papa and Mimi, which is kind of a central hub for kids and grandkids coming and going. We have a week left, and a wedding on Saturday!
Mimi is your mama? She had 11 babies at home? and Homeschooled? So you were homeschooled?
Hannah,
Yes, I was homeschooled all my life until college by Mimi. And she is most definitely our mama. 🙂
hi honeeee………….you have a very beautiful family:) you look wonderfully happy; and all look very good 🙂 luv u lots/mom
Ok.. while my mama did not birth 11 children, she did birth three and adopt six more and I was homeschooled my entire life too (save a handful of classes I took at the local highschool as a homeschooler)! 🙂
Hannah,
That’s so cool your parents adopted–I think people who adopt are amazing. And that’s awesome you were homeschooled! When I was homeschooled, there were no laws for it where we lived. My parents were taken to court for 4 years and finally won…making homeschooling legal for the state of NC.
Mom,
We are so happy to be here, and the kids look so different! Someday you’ll meet them!
What an amazing family you have! I’m glad to see you are having a wonderful time!
Wow! Love all of your sewing projects! Nice to get a peak into your family too. How many siblings do you have then?
There are 11 of us–7 boys and 4 girls.
Wow! That’s so awesome!
I fixated on two things when I read this post: 1, You have the incredible genes (your parents look like they’re in their 40’s and you in your 20’s); and 2, You make me laugh and I wish we had spent more time together while we were both in KC. Keep posting, it’s so fun to see and read.
I wish we had spent more time together, too. Funny how you often get to know people better after you move apart, right? As for the genes, maybe having a lot of kids keeps you young? Just having three does that for me…at least, it keeps me acting like a kid. 🙂
