loving cash
We can’t seem to get enough of our sweet little Cash. He’s an incredibly good baby, and today, at two weeks old, he’s only had one or two fussy days. He has never broken into an all-out cry…even at birth all he gave was a cub-like growl.
Zia is loving him, but she’s also extra-sensitive to anything that sounds like correction. If she’s being too noisy and is told to quiet down, she gets a little hurt. “No one cares about the big sister,” she says.
But we do care about the big sister. It just takes some extra effort to keep her busy and fulfilled. Our kindergarten schoolbooks are coming in the mail, and until then, we’re doing various little projects–clay modeling, rubber stamping, workbooks, flower dying, face painting, nature sculptures. And always, drawing and reading.
She brings her lunch to his bed and sits close so she can “see his little face.” She’s right there with “oooo, gross!” when he gets a diaper change, and laughs like crazy at his loud and very boyish bodily functions.
His bed is a storage tub with layers of blankets for padding. We made it when I finally came downstairs with him at 3 days old, and we realized we couldn’t really lay him on the couch to sleep–not with a bouncy Tigger of a 5-year old leaping around everywhere.
He doesn’t seem to mind sleeping in a storage tub.
And because we wish she were still here, a picture of Mimi rocking an almost 1-week old Cash. He’s still as nice and quiet and snuggly now as he was then, Mimi. You probably could’ve smuggled him onto the plane like you wanted to, and no one would have known.
We might have missed him just a little, though.

Hi Mom,
Yes, Zia and Caleb will both be so good with Cash, I think. Right now she is SO happy to have her BIG brother home…I think she forgot about baby bro for the moment!
Oh sweet Zia. I can imagine it’s a tough transition, even with the love she feels for him, to not be the center of your attention. I will learn from you in the coming weeks as we prepare for the same. They are both beautiful, beautiful children.
I haven’t been keeping up with any blogs lately, sorry to say, so this is the first I am hearing about precious, little Cash. Congratulations!
Things will soon settle in to a new normal for everyone.. even big sisters š
I just want to reach through the computer and get a snuggle!! So sweet! It’s always a bit of adjustment for the older one, but she’ll get there.
