I had the best birthday ever, full of fields and friends and wide open spaces.  I ran out in the morning to pick columbines from a spot I found on our road.  They’re the purple-and-white ones above, my very favorite flower.  I came back with a whole bouquet of them and a ton of other mountain wildflowers.

Our friends are here.  We had a breakfast of David-made burritos, oatmeal, and pumpkin-spinach smoothies, then headed off for a hike. It was short because of the rain, but by the time we got down to the river for lunch, it was dry again.  The kids had a blast hopping on rocks across the water, and of course some of them fell in and got soaked.

We came home and David grilled steaks while I cooked broccoli and made a salad.  We had strawberry shortcakes for dessert, then some of us tumbled into bed while others made a campfire and roasted marshmallows.

I’m 39 today.  I’m happy about that.  I don’t feel like my life is ebbing away as I get older, but growing and swelling a little each year.  I’m thankful for another whole year that I’ve gotten to live.  I have so much–David, our kids, good friends, my great Creator, beauty all around me.  I don’t deserve the life I have, but I’m grateful for it, and for every day of it.

Happy Birthday to one slightly older than me who looks sooooooo much younger! It looks and sounds like it was a beautiful day. I must remember this lesson. The key to always looking incredible is picking flowers on the side of the road 😉 Be well.

[…] My sister liked the Rocky Mountain Columbine necklace in my shop, but wanted a set with matching earrings to give as a Christmas gift.  I made this set for her.  This design is one of my favorite creations–I love the contrast of the purple with rich wood tones.  The Rocky Mountain Columbine also happens to be my favorite flower (remember I gave it to myself as a birthday present?)  […]
