backyard visitors

With the snow finally gone (for now) the mountain wildlife are emerging bit by bit from their winter hideouts. We’re having a lot of fun spying on them.

We’ve found coyote, raccoon, and moose tracks in the past couple of days. We looked out our front window and this little mule deer was peering back at us.

Then we realized the backyard was full of them!

There were six: three little bucks and three little does.

They must have come to snack on our yard that is slowly turning green. (They also snacked on the tomato seedlings, the peppermint, and the avocado plant.) It’s the first time we’ve seen deer on our land.

We also have mountain chickadees taking over the birdhouses. Their “Chickadee-dee-dee!” fills our backyard with music.

My very favorite ever since I was little are the ruby-throated hummingbirds. They are fascinating with their blur of emerald wings and sparkly ruby throats.

More mountain wildlife to come…as long as the late spring storms hold off!
