for the sake of warm paws

So I decided to try my hand (ha) at making mittens. They were fairly easy, I just had to learn a few new stitches as I bumped my way along.

Here’s Zia modeling them. They’re a little large even for me…the pattern said they were designed for an “average adult”, so I thought they would fit…but I guess in reality they would fit even a guy with a good sized hand. I think I’ll try to make the next pair a little smaller.

Actually, I did make a next pair, and they were a lot smaller! Whatever I make for me always has to be followed by a miniature counterpart…

voila.

A much better fit for the little model. She wore this one around the house for a day and a half while I finished the other.

After these 2 knitting projects, I got a little disillusioned with knitting. I wanted to upgrade from the wool/acrylic blends I used here to a purely natural fiber yarn. The area craft stores were sorely lacking in their selection of different wool weights and colors, and my local yarn store, with all its beautiful hand-spun, hand-dyed wools was just a bit too pricey. I didn’t really want to spend $24 making a pair of socks, you know?

So I’ve ditched knitting for a few days in favor of good ol’ stitchin’….but I’m sure the separation won’t be permanent. Knitting is just too addictive.

Maybe I need to buy a sheep.
