a big birthday box

I’m just a little overwhelmed, in a good way. I ran over to Vitamin Cottage for hot dog buns for the boys, and it seems that while I was out, a rather large birthday box arrived. For me.

It was a Tribest Sedona Dehydrator, no less than the very best dehydrator. I don’t even remember extolling its virtues to David, but I guess he figured it out somehow. I am totally not in the birthday mindset, since the great day isn’t for another 2 1/2 weeks, but the box came just the same.

I tried it out right away. I threw together a raw pizza crust from some soaked sunflower seeds and carrot juice pulp I had on hand, and also a batch of sweet bread-y things made from the same base, only with cinnamon and stevia added.

The Sedona is almost silent. When the weather turned warm I quit using my old dehydrator since it warmed the house along with the food, but this one is way-y-y different. In fact, you can’t really feel any warmth even when you put your hand right up to it. I programmed it to 108 degrees and set it for 10 hours for dehydrating the dough. It’s completely digital, and shuts off when the timer goes off. Which is a lifesaver; my old one didn’t even have a thermostat (much less a shut-off timer) and I’ve definitely overcooked a few batches. In fact, I doubt whether my old Nesco produced anything that was actually raw.

Have I mentioned what a crazily blessed girl I am? I sit here thinking I have been given such a good life, and then I get something else dropped in my lap. Remember how I said that as a rule we don’t really do much for special days? Um, well – I meant to say I don’t really do much. The guy never was one to stick to rules of any kind.

So I’m thankful, once again – to be the daughter of the richest King in the universe; to have a pair of really good earthly parents (and 10 pretty OK brothers and sisters); to be married to the best man in the world; to have the sweetest little girl I’ve ever met; to share in a special boy she rightly calls her brother.

And I’m thankful for everything else in my life too – those little things that sometimes seem so big (like juicers and dehydrators). Why I’m so blessed, maybe I’ll never know, but I’ll just keep saying thanks.
