morning at the garden

I happened on 2 big elk this morning. They were happily chowing down on the grass outside the garden fence.

Everything is green and growing! Our plot is in the foreground.

All my happy babies.

Green tomatoes

Beets and radishes

Lettuce, curly kale, and spinach

Russian kale. I love the purple stalks!

The garden is showing up at every meal now. I usually come early to get spinach for a breakfast smoothie and some other combination of greens for later in the day.

The collard greens (lower left-hand corner) make really good wraps. They hold up great with lots of stuff inside, and have a really mild taste. Actually, I’ve never been able to tell what they really taste like.

Zia’s pets. They live here at the garden.

Today’s harvest. Nearly a pound of spinach and kale!

And finally (shhh) a big cozy birthday blanket for the girl who loves horses, American flags, and especially the color blue. I made it yesterday and smuggled it out to the garden this morning to take pictures.

Have a spectacular 4th of July!
