arty girls day

I drew this strange bird and Zia colored it. I was really intrigued by the delicate way she used the colored pencils – so very different than her painting style, which is very heavy and dark – usually browns and blacks. She was very within the lines, as you can see.

She did this painting right after coloring the drawing:

Guess she just needed to let herself go wild after the previous masterpiece. (Top of the painting courtesy moi, since she asked for a mermaid and I added some ocean elements free of charge.)

This sweet piece was done by Catherine, Zia’s best friend since we moved here to Colorado. That’s a carrot in the top left corner, and a sun in the middle, besides lots of other cool stuff, as you can see. Cath spent the day with Zia and they had a blast playing all afternoon, then crashed in the living room to watch Joseph, King of Dreams.

The art came along too. Fun times.

i used to be an art teacher and there is hardly any other thing that gets me as excited as seeing beautifully crafted kiddo masterpieces. I LOVE those pics! Tell Zia if she ever needs someone to get her name on the map, we will be happy to buy some works šŸ˜‰
